TPS RealBrief April Issue

The theme of my April newsletter is Administrative Professionals Week which is next week.

The theme of APW this year is Forward Moving and it couldn't be a better fit for what I've been doing with my life and my work.

I’ve been doing this kind of work my entire career, but this is the first time ever that I’m doing it on my own with my own business. It really gives me a different perspective on it and, I have to say, it’s pretty exciting!

Click on the table of contents to go to the What's New Page on my web site where you can view this month’s issue of TPS Real Brief. Enjoy!

Adventures in Lincoln: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Like I mentioned in my last post, my trip to Lincoln had some adventures. Of course you know adventures are what you call frustrations and annoyances after the fact. LOL. I also packed in as many things as I could that I can’t do here in Norfolk.

The Good: I got to hang out with my cousin – we always have a blast. I treated myself to lunch at Brewsky’s and played some Keno. I stocked up on Popeye’s Chicken and spoiled the dog with toys and goodies from PetSmart.

The Bad: I got lost twice trying to find the Federal Building. I parked in the wrong parking garage and had to walk in the rain to my appointment. Oh, and I missed winning $1,450 on Keno by one measly number!

The Ugly: I had some technical difficulties checking my messages and didn’t know the appointment that I walked to in the rain had to be rescheduled. I rode the elevator all the way up to the 18th floor and then had to turn around and get right back in and go back down 18 floors. That wouldn’t be such a big deal if I weren’t really, really elevator-phobic.

All in all, it was a great trip and I always love a change of scenery.

Another step in the right direction

TA-DA!
Well, I've taken another big step to expand my business. This is the first time I've learned new skills on my own and not through school or through an employer. After having to pass on several potential pieces of business because I didn't have experience in bankruptcy, I realized it was time to take action.

I started last month by getting the E-Z Filing software. Then it sat for awhile while I tried to figure out how to use it. After developing a close personal relationship with tech support, I worked it out.

Then, last Thursday, I went to Lincoln for a training class. I now have my CM/ECF Certification for Nebraska. How excited am I?!?! BTW, CM/ECF means Case Management/Electronic Case Filing for you non-legal types reading this.

I had some other adventures in Lincoln, but I'll save those for another post.

Bonus!

I love Leap Year! It is so amazing to get this extra 24 hours to play with. And I played my heart out. My friend, Amy, and I took the afternoon off work and took full advantage of our bonus day.

We all run around all the time wishing we had a few extra hours in the day to get everything done. I'm guilty of it too. Then once every four years, we're blessed with the gift of time. It's such a great reminder to slow down and enjoy the simple act of living.

I've definitely decided that I'm not going to wait another four years to enjoy some extra time. It's all about finding balance and control. I will work hard enough so that I can afford some play time and so I can really appreciate how great it is to just relax and have fun.

TPS February Newsletter

Like all businesses that want to find more ways to reach people, I have a monthly newsletter. It comes out on the 15th of every month. It's called TPS RealBrief. Get it? Briefs are legal documents, but the newsletter is also short (brief) so it's easy to read through without taking up too much of anyone's valuable time.

Every month, I pick a theme and try to have many of the features on focus on that. February has so much too choose from....Valentine's Day, President's Day, and Leap Year this year. I learned some fun and interesting new information about all of these important days when I was researching my newsletter.

OK, maybe I should quit talking about TPS RealBrief and just let you read it for yourself. Click on the table of contents to go to the What's New Page on my web site. Enjoy!

First Time Blogger

Well, here it is. My first blog ever. I have a lot of interests, both personal and professional and this is the place I'm going to come to share them.

It seems that, with each year that passes, I grow more as a person and I feel compelled to try more new things. I never want to be one of those people who just lets life happen to them. One of my favorite quotes is, "Don't let the past hold you back...you're missing the good stuff." I think that is so important to remember. I may not like everything that has happened to me in the past, but it has made me who I am and taught me a lot. If I make the most of the lessons of my past, it can only be a good thing in keeping me moving forward.

So, I'm hoping to make my blog a place were I can explore and share the many things that interest me. I think the world is a very exciting place and I don't want to miss a bit of it. If that's how you feel too, come back and let's jump off the cliff together!
